IF-Communications: Supporting Astia’s We Own It London Summit

IF-Communications is proud to once again support the Astia Foundation and it’s ‘We Own It Summit’, which will be held this year on 9-10 June at London’s Imperial College.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Astia for many years, supporting the foundation with it’s aim of enabling ‘women’s full participation as entrepreneurs and leaders in high-growth businesses, fuelling innovation and driving economic growth.’

This year’s ‘We Own It Summit’ keynote speech will be delivered by Cherie Blair QC, who said: “I am a firm believer in the power of women entrepreneurs, so when I heard about Astia’s summit, I was more than happy to lend my support.  Women are too often overlooked as business leaders.  If we want to successfully tackle the challenges the world faces today, we need to include women in the equation.”

Supported by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the invitation-only summit creates a venue for entrepreneurs, investors, academia, government, media, non-profit and industry organizations to discuss their aims, identify opportunities to collaborate and build alliances, share research and findings, and create a shared-policy agenda.

Internationally renowned panellists will explore the opportunities and challenges for women entrepreneurs – in particular within high-growth markets such as high technology, life science, clean technology and high-growth consumer brands.

We believe that entrepreneurs need the support of other entrepreneurs, which is why the ‘We Own It Summit’ is the perfect event for women to get the support that will enable them to achieve the success that everybody deserves.

Astia applauds Hillary Clinton’s Women’s and Girls Initiatives announced at Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship

IF Communications client Astia has announced its support for three significant Women’s and Girl’s initiatives, which were announced by U.S Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship.

“Data shows that innovation, whether in business, sciences or the arts, requires gender diversity. Yet, opportunities for women continue to lag those available to men,” said Sharon Vosmek, CEO of Astia, the premier venture accelerator that targets exceptional start-ups with women on their founding teams.

“We applaud Secretary Clinton, the Rockefeller Foundation and the participating government entities for recognizing the value of female-driven innovation and putting essential resources behind helping not only today’s, but tomorrow’s generation of creative women thinkers.”

Astia is a global not-for-profit organization with a distinct focus and mission – to uniquely source innovation by propelling women’s full participation as entrepreneurs and leaders in high-growth businesses, fueling innovation and driving economic growth.

The summit on global entrepreneurship at which Secretary Clinton announced the initiatives involved delegates from over 50 nations in a two day discussion on how to collectively promote global entrepreneurship.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Astia delivers programs for entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley, New York, London and India. Next Week, the Astia London ‘Doing it Right’ Programme will take place.

Three Major Initiatives for Women and Girls

First, Secretary Clinton announced the “Secretary’s Innovation Award for Women’s and Girls’ Empowerment,” in partnership with the Rockefeller foundation.

Clinton has invited women and girls to submit initial concept papers outlining pioneering approaches to the political, economic, and social empowerment of females. Two essayists will be selected to receive an Innovation Award in the form of a grant up to $500,000 with which to expand the scope of their idea.

The Secretary also announced the “Secretary’s Fund for Women and Girls,” a State Department-led public-private partnership committed to providing flexible, rapid, targeted, and high-impact grants to nongovernmental organizations working to meet the critical needs of women and girls around the world.

Lastly, she announced the Department of State Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is seeking applications for the TechWomen program. The program will link approximately 20-40 emerging female leaders from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the West Bank and Gaza, who have at least two years of professional experience in the field of technology, with female peer mentors in the United States for a four- to six-week mentorship program.
